about:

Samana was realised in the heart of a mountainous forest, during a year-long journey Rebecca Rose and Franklin Mockett undertook across the natural wilderness and distant cities of Eastern Europe. Lending their instincts solely to the road, and to the embodiment of freedom, their first creations were written in the vast isolation of nature and performed on the streets of the towns and villages they passed through. As two multi-disciplinary artists, Samana weave together their distinct poetry, music, striking photography and fine-art into one unique project. Crafting every element of creation themselves, the process the pair adopt in the creation of their work is one of strong ritualistic devotion and is produced in their analogue recording studio ‘The Road Records’ and darkroom in the remote regions of Wales.

Their music confronts the heaviest elements of the human condition, alternately surrendering to this heaviness and transcending it. It is an invitation to regain possession of ourselves and our time, as well as rediscovering harmony with the environment that surrounds us, compelling a desire to overcome our borders and to learn. Oscillating between melancholic ballads and spiritual experiences, their music leads one on a journey of cinematic proportion that evokes ancient beliefs, revolution, healing, fallen civilisations and intense deliberations of love, loss and death. They possess a truly unique spirit born from a nomadic and solitary existence, placing great emphasis on the philosophy of dreams, the interior of the subconscious and the power of improvisation. Each song created by Samana is constructed with an ethereal power and an emotional honesty which offers a direct passage into the essence of ourselves, removing ones veneer, with its shamanic quality. This is music for the soul.

This November, The Road Records presents the ‘In Tune With The Infinite Tour’; an all artist-curated event, which will be taken to a small number of unique spaces around the UK. The Tour marks the release of SAMANA’s third album, which is a self titled record, and will be performed in the sacred circle of the round alongside their full string ensemble. Audience members will be immersed into an emotional dreamscape of vocals, bodhran, gongs, bells, horns, piano, electric guitars, violin and cello.

Our mission is to deliver a profoundly transcendental and immersive sonic and atmospheric experience, breaking down the performer/audience barrier, easing all into the soft, embracing ambience of a living room. Emphasis is placed firmly on the sonic deliverance of the music, offering a binaural soundscape held within the spaces we inhabit. All such realms constitude towards a fully immersive state of interconnectedness, where the ethereal and the emotional realms fuse..

Our imprint 'The Road Records’ is on a mission to achieving artistic sustainability for uncompromising artistry in what is presently an incredibly challenging climate for independent artists in the UK. This means that once venue hire and artist expenses are taken care of, all ticket proceeds go directly into the pockets of crew of 9 artists, enabling the evening to be infused with magic and helping the continuation of more tailored and special events for the future.
